"5 Charged In Gang Rape Of 7-Year-Old Girl Sold By Sister"

The horror of the issues surrounding this incident are almost too numerous to count. Firstly the parenting of our children in the community (not just Trenton), the mentality of our youth (our young queens/kings trading their bodys and devaluing one another) and worshipping the idol of money. The black community has got to step it up and mobilize around addressing the lies we like to tell ourselves about how we don't needi help. We need help and I'm not talking legislation of Obama programs. We need a spritual revolution of honesty. We must first start with doing the hard work of dealing with our demons head on with a zero tolerance policy for cover ups and lies. We've got to get away from this ideal that these images we accept in the name of entertainment (money, cars, clothes and hoes) are being properly processed by our under educated mis managed youth. These incidents are happening on our watch and to the children of our future. How can the Barrack Obama of 2035 come from this rubble of moral bankruptcy?

Dear Sir:

I enjoy the content of your blog post. I believe that there is a lot that we, as adults can do to influence America’s youth, especially in some of the ways that you elude too. One such example that I refer to is “The black community has got to step it up and mobilize around addressing the lies we like to tell ourselves about how we don't need help.”

Whilst I am positive that this example happens regardless of community I, nonetheless, agree with your assertion: “We need a spiritual revolution of honesty. We must first start with doing the hard work of dealing with our demons head on with a zero tolerance policy for cover ups and lies.”

“We've got to get away from this ideal that these images we accept in the name of entertainment (money, cars, clothes and hoes) are being properly processed by our under educated mismanaged youth. These incidents are happening on our watch and to the children of our future.”

Seriously all one needs to do is turn on MTV or VH1 or any other 12-24 year old demographic to see the “trappings of the Empire” with jewelry and other disgusting scenes with money involved. I agree with you that many a programming director should lose jobs over what’s being placed on national television today.

I do have one discord with your post – and this may be my own sensitivity or it could be the way your post is written. I don’t know; however, better an example than anything else: “…the parenting of our children in the community (not just Trenton), the mentality of our youth (our young queens/kings trading their bodies and devaluing one another…”) The only problem that I have with this is in the “our” nature of the problems. When one writes this way it leaves oceans of void as to whether the writer is referring to the community as a whole – United States of America – or, any other particular community? Thank you in advance.

J.P., I sincerely thank for your comment this feedback is very helpful. The term "our" made in reference to the community, was specifically speaking to the “black community" because this was the location of the alleged rape incident and more specifically these incidents of self devaluation are happening with disproportionate frequency in the "black community". I realize the validity of your statement citing the “void” this leaves but my full intent was/is to place a laser focus on what's becoming a frustrating cycle in this community. I will be clearer in the future.
